Students yelled and cheered in the busy gymnasium at the end of the day, standing around two competitors wearing gold and green beads. Senior Ryan Grimm threw down scissors and cut Weston Carpenter paper to win the schoolwide rock-paper-scissors tournament.
The school wide rock-paper-scissors game took place on Friday, April 25. Students battled their classmates and fought for the victory at the end of the day.
Some rules applied to this event. Students were given one gold beaded necklace and teachers were given one green beaded necklace on Friday morning. Students went around asking classmates to battle, the choice of saying no was not an option. If a student won the battle they took the opponent’s bead(s). Once they won 10 necklaces, they were eligible to battle a teacher. If a student lost all of their beads, they were able to buy back in for $1, up until the time of the fourth hour. Students were only allowed to battle during passing time and lunch time.
If students still had beads by the end of the fifth hour, they were dismissed to the gym to battle for the grand prize. Many students came to the gym, with dozens of beads each. Students were paired up with a judge and battled until there were two people standing.
Grimm received a $100 VISA gift card to reward his victory.
