The Power of Powderpuff

The Power of Powderpuff

Homecoming is one of the most important weeks of the year for high school students. It is a way for the student body to come together and show off our school spirit. The powderpuff game is a way for junior girls to compete against senior girls in a football game under the stadium lights. This is a great way to create friendly competition between the two grades and get the student body excited for the game coming on Friday. At Spring Lake High School, powder puff is something that most females from the student body get excited about. In this year’s powderpuff game, there were around 40 senior girls signed up to play and around 75 junior girls. This year’s powderpuff game took place on Wednesday, September 28th at 7 pm. The lady Lakers battled it out but the seniors took the win, beating the juniors 14 to 7. Unlike other schools, Spring Lake only offers the powder puff game for juniors and seniors, meaning that the underclassmen have to wait their turn, making it even more exciting when you get the chance to play. The varsity football players in each grade get the chance to coach the girls to a victory. Not only does the powderpuff game allow girls the chance to challenge societal rules and play football, but the boys of each grade have the opportunity to be cheerleaders on the sideline. Besides powder puff, there are not many opportunities for each class to come together and be a team. The powder puff game is a way to unite each grade and bring out class spirit. As a senior, this is the last chance to win the homecoming wars that go on during your last week of homecoming.
