Beyond performing in front of home crowds at football games, Spring Lake High School’s band has taken their show on the road and competed strongly against area schools.
The band placed first at the Grand Haven invitational in September to open competition season. Their most recent band invitational was held at Rockford. While at the invitational, the band put on a great show, and as a result, they came home with second place by only a fifthteenth of a point for their flight.
While at Rockford, they got to see some of the competing bands. For the marching band, it was an exhilarating experience because, for the first competition, the band was only able to see two bands perform.
The marching band has been practicing since the middle of summer to perform at football games and invitationals. Their booming sounds and beautiful melodies can be recognized everywhere.
This year’s theme for the show is “Beacon Of Light.” The performance is based on being lost at sea and finding your way home with the help of a lighthouse. This show has been one of the most complex shows that the band has done, but they are pulling it off great.
As the season progresses, the band hopes to place in the top three at Ford Field for the MCBA State Finals in their flight.
