Three players broke the 40 mark: Dull (37), Bennett (38), and Cousineau (39) propelling the Lady Lakers to a 14-point first-place finish against their season rival Unity Christian. “I think that was the turning point in our season before we all had doubts about states and regionals and if we were good enough to make it, but after that round, we all knew we were capable of bringing it home at states,” said Junior Ellie Cavalier reflecting on this jamboree.
Conference Champions at The Reivans
The Lakers clinched the conference championship title, with Dull, Cousineau, Bennett, and Junior Casey Ireland earning All-Conference honors. Cavalier and Junior Anna Bonney received Honorable Mention. Dull led the team with an 80, followed by Cousineau’s 84 and Bennett’s 94. Dull reflects on being a back-to-back conference champions. “Being able to repeat as conference champ was a huge honor. Our team dominated the conference this year so it was not super competitive but more of a fun start to the postseason”
A Tough Regionals
The team faced a challenging regional competition at Cheddar Chase Golf Course. Tied with Forest Hills Rangers until the 18th hole, the pressure was on Dull to secure a par and nail third place. With nerves running high, Dull executed her second shot within ten feet of the pin and two-putted to secure their qualification for the state finals.
State Finals
For the Lakers, competing in a higher division in the state championships was a big challenge. Even though they gave it their all, they ended up in sixth place. Dull, however, was named the state runner-up for her outstanding individual performance.
The girls are thrilled to continue their hard work and dedication through winter leagues and classes next year, as the season comes to an end. The future is bright for the Spring Lake girls’ golf team.
