Naturally, over the span of six decades, the uniforms worn by our Spring Lake High School athletes are bound to change. This week we will start by showing off the boys’ track team uniforms from the 1970s to the present day. Please note, that these uniform dates are based on the yearbook publishing year of the yearbook listed. They could have changed throughout the in-between seasons but it would have been difficult to capture every single style ever featured in school history.
1965: Featured in this photo from the beginning of Spring Lake High School, a student is jumping hurdles while sporting a horizontal striped jersey top and dark shorts.
1974: During the 70’s the team is shown wearing black shorts, with a white top. The jersey says ‘Spring Lake’ and under that, they have the flying shoe symbol.
1984: These uniforms had very unique jerseys for the tops. They had the tops of it one color, with “Lakers” written across it, and the bottom completely white. Also, it was interesting to see how the 1980s prominently displayed their uniforms on their yearbook pages.
1990s* – Unfortunately for this series, during the 1990s all of the yearbooks were published prior to spring sports concluding, so they required separate added-in pages which would have been distributed at a later date. This meant we were unable to obtain photos from the decade for this publication. While we are sure the uniforms were as iconic as all the other years, we apologize that we are not able to highlight them at this time.
2004: Once we get to 2000, spring sports began to be included in yearbooks without requiring an add-in page. During the early 2000s, the track team’s uniforms are pictured repping the classic SL symbol on the left side of her chest and a black stripe down the right.
2014: The 2010s brought a more significant pop of color to the boy’s track page, as seen in the photo above, they were completely red under armor uniforms with only slight pops of white throughout. This draws much more attention to our main Laker color, as well as makes the all-white SL symbol pop out on the chest of the jersey.
2024: Last season’s boy’s uniforms had red shorts and a grey jersey top, which gave a much more modern look to the team.
Already this year for the 2025 track season, the team had shown off their new and improved uniforms. Team captain, Braeden Bessinger said “The new uniforms are a cool new addition that makes us feel like one team, instead of two separate JV and Varsity teams.” You can check out the new uniforms at any of their upcoming meets, with the next home meet being tonight, April 21st, or The JV conference meet hosted by Spring Lake High School on May 13th.
