As preparations for Homecoming are underway, both students and staff eagerly anticipate the festivities. Homecoming Week will take place the week of September 29 with the overall theme of “Holidays.” Here is a rundown of the exciting week for the Lakers!
Monday – Color Wars
To begin the week, students will compete in a color war based on their grade. Each grade will represent their own color: seniors wear black, juniors white, sophomores green, and freshmen blue.
After a full day of school junior and senior girls will play a game of flag football, known to be Powderpuff. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Gabskinsi field.
“I am looking forward to leading the juniors to victory!” junior caption Amelia Arnold said.
Tuesday – Country Club or Country
On Tuesday, students choose to dress in country club or country attire. During fourth and fifth hours students will participate or cheer on belly flop and cardboard boat race competitions. If your grade wins a race, it will count towards homecoming points.
Wednesday – Jersey Day
Root for your favorite sports team and wear a jersey to school. After the early release students can stay after school and decorate their hallway until 3 p.m. In past years, hallways were decorated by each grade’s color. New this year, the hallways will be decorated based on holiday themes for each grade.
Thursday – Holiday Theme
Thursday is theme day. Seniors are Halloween, juniors Fourth of July, sophomores Christmas, and freshman St. Patrick’s Day. Each grade’s student council will build a holiday float to show off in the homecoming parade.
Friday – Laker Pride
And to end the school week students and staff will show their Laker Pride! Wear red and grey to school to show off your grade’s spirit at the pep assembly near the end of the school day. Grades will battle in a series of exciting competitions, including mattress relay, tug of war, and musical chairs basketball.
Beginning at 6 p.m. is the parade, which will end at the football field with the game kicking off at 7. p.m.
Spring Lake staff wish each grade luck in the class competitions. The winner will be announced at halftime of the game.
Saturday – Homecoming Dance
Homecoming week will end with the Homecoming dance. This year it will take place in the new fieldhouse from 7-10 p.m; however, you will not be able to get in the doors after 8 p.m. and there will be no re-entry if you leave the building. Tickets will be $15 online or $20 cash at the doors.
