The Spring Lake Field House is now officially open and ready for students to use. On Wednesday, September 10 students, staff, families, administrative officers, and other members of the community gathered to celebrate the opening of the Laker Athletic Center (LAC).
Spring Lake administrators kicked off the opening ceremony with a “welcoming, uplifting speech” explained J.T. Hogan, the SL athletic director.
After the inspiring speeches, the ribbon cutting ceremony took place. The ribbon cutting went smoothly, “We cut the ribbon and did not cut any fingers!” Hogan said.
Throughout the two hours, Hogan estimated about 200 people showed up. The Spring Lake marching band performed and there were many athletes there demonstrating how to use the equipment in the field house.
Hogan said that he is most excited for the elementary school “play days” that will be taking place in the field house.
“I can not wait to see little first and second graders running around on a field trip instead of going to craigs cruisers,” Hogan said.
Students who aren’t in athletics will still have opportunities to use the LAC as well – including the marching band, after school lifting programs, and even some of the high school classes.
“We have been using it at the start of practice every day, end of practice everyday, and morning practices,” Girls Cross Country Coach Aaron Andres said.
Multiple sports teams have already used the LAC, and students have reported enjoying their time in the new space.
