Nowadays almost every school has their own Barstool page, and Spring Lake is no exception. The Spring Lake Barstool account has nearly 2,000 followers and posts multiple times per week. The Barstool account is run by the current senior class and is passed down each year.
The Barstool account is used to spread a lot of useful information about things such as football games, spirit events, and other school related activities. Many of these posts are very helpful and can work to improve the lives of students. Without the Barstool account it would be much harder to plan large scale coordinated events with the whole school. It provides an access point to information that can be accessed by all students.
Although the Barstool account is mainly used to push helpful information it also has a separate purpose, every Thursday an “Almost Friday” post is made featuring submissions from around the school. Each week 10 photos are selected to be sent out for the whole school to see. Many of these pictures are lighthearted photos of sporting events or people doing funny things, but some of the pictures featured are a little more ill-willed. Barstool does not ask people permission before posting about them and this can lead to some people becoming upset about what has been posted.
While people’s opinions of Barstool may vary, Instagram has made their stance against it pretty strong. The last two “Almost Friday” posts have been removed by Instagram. While it is not confirmed what Instagram’s reasoning for this is, it is likely due to the fact that instagram has rules against posts which could classify as bullying.
The “Barstool Spring Lake” page is not affiliated with the Barstool Sports media company, nor are they affiliated with any high schools.
What do you think about Spring Lake Barstool? Has it gone too far, or should it continue?
