The World of Pandora Returns

The popular film Avatar, directed by James Cameron, first appeared on December 18, 2009. The film was a massive success, making over $2.922 billion and becoming the highest grossing film of all time. Audiences were immediately captivated by the film and its use of motion capture, incredible CGI, visual effects, and details. From the luscious plants, wild animals, and fascinating Na’vi characters, the film, although difficult to summarize in one word, is a breathtaking movie. Especially in the year 2009, when the movie was released, when the technology was newer to film and provided an exceptional experience for viewers.

The film takes place on a planet called Pandora. It’s inhabited by many intriguing creatures and a population called the Na’vi. A man named Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a former Marine, arrives on the planet with a mission: Find a way to remove the Na’vi so humans can mine the valuable ore under their home. But once Jake mets a Na’vi named Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) he learns about Pandora and its extraordinary people. He left with a decision; whether to stand with his own kind or the Na’vi he has grown to love. 

Now, after 13 years, James Cameron has finally given the fans a sequel; Avatar: The Way of Water. It released into theatres on December 16, 2022, making $1.928 billion in box office (January 19, 2023). In this film Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) have formed a family of their own, introducing several younger actors to the screen. But when humans return to Pandora, determined to not only take it’s resources, but also possibly make a new home for humanity; Jake and his family are forced to leave their home and seek help from other Na’vi. Viewers get to explore a new region of Pandora, along with new Na’vi characters. But they aren’t as safe as they think. Jake must wage a war against humans to protect his family and their newfound home.

Same as the first movie, the visuals didn’t disappoint. Just like in the forest, the ocean is filled with beauty and new, wonderful creatures. Cameron has also introduced new Na’vi characters to the storyline. An ocean clan of Na’vi is brought to life, letting viewers see a different culture of Na’vi and how their side of the world works. Whether above or below the scenery will enrapture any audience.

This sequel is an incredible addition to the world of Pandora and more are on it’s way. Cameron has promised fans three more sequels are coming their way soon. But for now, take a moment to relax in the world of Pandora and its awe-inspiring features. From its visual effects to its amazing soundtrack, this is a wonderful once in a lifetime movie to experience.
