As Spring Lake High School enters fall, Homecoming is around the corner. Though it is later than last year, it will begin Monday and continue through the week of Oct. 14. Here is a rundown of the exciting week for the Lakers!
Monday
To start off the week, students will compete in a color war based on grade. Each grade has its own color: seniors wear black, juniors white, sophomores pink, and freshmen blue. Make sure to show up to school wearing your grade’s color! Following the students’ colorful outfits, the hallways will also be decked out. Go support your grade and decorate your class hall. The most colorful hallway wins! Decorating will take place on Sunday night, Oct. 13, 6- 8 p.m.
After the day of learning the senior and junior girls will face each other in a game of flag football. Come support the annual Powder Puff game at Grabinski Field at 7 p.m.
“I am looking forward to all the girls coming together to get that win,” said Noelle Wyedenhoeft, who will captain the senior team.
Tuesday-Thursday
On Tuesday, the Lakers will get a taste of college life. Come to school in your best fraternity outfit! The belly flop competition will also take place at 1:15 p.m. for grades 9-10 and 2:20 p.m. for 11th-12th graders.
The theme for Wednesday is college gear. On Thursday, the Lakers will dress up for USA Day, so wear your red, white, and blue.
Friday
On Friday, show up in your Laker gear! Lakers will spend the day in their red and gray and have a pep assembly near the end of the school day. Get ready to be loud! Laker fall athletes will be represented. All grades will be competing against each other in a mattress race, tug of war, and half-court shoot-out. Make sure to look out for class schedule changes. Following the exciting school day, students will get ready for the parade. The parade will begin at 6 p.m., ending at the field for the football game at 7 p.m.
Saturday
The Homecoming week will wrap up with the Homecoming dance. The dance will take place at Spring Lake High School Commons from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday night. Make sure to make dinner reservations early because you will not be able to get into the dance after 8 p.m. due to new rules. Tickets are sold only online and are $10 until Friday, Oct. 18. After Friday, they will be $15.
Spring Lake’s Student Council is responsible for organizing and planning the events. Meghan Perrin, who advises the council, said it’s up to the students to make this week possible.
“I am looking forward to giving more leadership roles and opportunities to the students,” she said. “I hope to leave decisions up to the students.”
Spring Lake High School staff reminded students during class meetings in September that off-campus activities like TP-ing are out of the school’s control and can have legal consequences.
