This past week has been amazing for SLHS Theater.
This week, SLHS Theater’s all-school crew will present Radium Girls, a story set in the 1920s in Orange, New Jersey, about the women who painted radium on clocks, dials, watches, etc. but used their mouths to wet their brushes, accidentally ingesting the radium. The play tells the story of Grace Fryer (played by Emmy Tosterud), a woman who worked in one of these factories, and how the radium affected her life and the lives of the people around her.
Make sure to head out to the high school on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to go see “Radium Girls” and support our Lakers!
Last week, the varsity club performed “Parker and the City in the Sea,” a small play about a boy named Parker and his sister, Colleen. The characters’ both deal with their trauma and grief in different ways, Colleen being more verbal and abrasive while Parker being more imaginative.
The play starts with Parker (played by Hank Sanderlin) in his submarine diving deeper into the Pacific when over the intercom, both Judy and Doug (played by Emmerson Thelen and Keegan Ryan) talk to Parker about his dives. However, soon Parker is interrupted by a school bell and quickly runs offstage. The following scenes tell Parker and his sister, Colleen (played by Zozz Chalupa) stories of their school lives, both being bullied by Jessie (played by Maya Perry), having talks with the school administrators, becoming friends with the new girl in school, Grace (played by Mallory Gwinup), and eventually both Parker and Colleen finding the lost city of Atlantis, together.
Tickets are available during lunch and are free to staff and students.
Both plays are directed by Shaylynn Chalupa.
