Naturally over the span of six decades the uniforms worn by our Spring Lake High School athletes are bound to change. This week we will start by showing off the football uniforms throughout the decades from 1965 to present day. Please note, these uniform dates are based on the yearbook publishing year, not the year in which the season would’ve been completed (e.g. “2025” = This past season which officially concluded in Oct. 2024).
1965: The school’s very first yearbook pictures a basic all-white uniform with two stripes on each shoulder.
1975: Though the photos are all in black and white we can assume the yearbooks in the 70s began to show more of our iconic red uniforms that we know and love still today. Along with the color change between photos, you can also see that the team now also has their numbers featured on the sleeves of their jerseys.
1985: This is the first glimpse of the football team in color (by decade), this homecoming parade photo highlights the more modern looking uniforms the team was wearing by now. Specific updates include the black and red striping down the parts, and the stripes on the sleeves coming back.
1995: This photo shows off all aspects of the uniforms worn in the 90s, we can see the striping and numbers present on the sleeves, the way they had the names displayed on the back of the jersey (specifically featuring the iconic Grabinski name), and even down to small details such as the stars on the back of the helmet.
2005: Now into a new century, and finally back in color, Lakers of the early 2000s show off their standard red and grey uniforms once again.
2015: The new decade meant a bold new look for the Lakers. The football team now pictured in a unique uniform which had white jerseys with black and red sleeves, and black pants. They also now have the word “Lakers” proudly written across their chests.
2025: After looking through all of the decades worth of Spring Lake football uniforms and their similarities and differences, it feels fair to say that the current uniform shown off by our team is almost like an homage to all of the past uniforms worn by teams of the past. This uniform brings together concepts seen in all of the past ones we have looked at throughout the presentation.
What types of uniforms do you think the next decade will bring for our Spring Lake Lakers?
