As we move through February we decided to look back on how our Spring Lake Lakers spent their Valentine’s Day holiday this year. According to the survey released on Schoology last week, these were the results.
Out of the survey’s 121 participants, only 36 people answered that they had a Valentine this year. While this day is generally known for being about everything love and romance, in recent years it has also become big among friends and other types of loved ones. Across social media, there have been trends of getting together to do “Galentine’s” get-togethers with friends, which could have also been one of the reasons for less than 30 percent of respondents having an official Valentine this year.
When it comes to Valentine’s gifting, there are multiple things that immediately come to mind. Fifty-four respondents said they received chocolate, 28 people received flowers, 18 received teddy bears, and 11 people said they were gifted jewelry.
As for how people spent their time with their Valentine and/or friends during the Valentine’s Day weekend, we decided to ask about specific activities that we heard talked about around the school during the week leading up to the holiday. Nearly thirty-six percent of respondents went out to eat at some point during the weekend, 6 percent of people went to the movies, and 5 percent of people went bowling.
With this year’s Snowco theme being Valentine’s and falling the day after the holiday, we also asked about how many respondents attended the dance. Sadly, only 24 percent (29 people) said they attended and the other 76 percent (92 people) said they did not attend this year’s winter formal dance.
