The Spring Lake High School community has warmly embraced several newcomers including Vickie Mahrin. After traveling the globe, Mahrin has returned back to the Tri-Cities area to share her love for French culture to Spring Lake High School students.
Mahin grew up in Grand Haven and graduated from Grand Haven High School, where she nourished her love for French from one of her favorite English teachers, who also happened to teach French. She decided to try out French in order to stay in a class with her favorite teacher, and so began her love for the French language and culture.
Following graduation, she attended Central Michigan University, where she double-majored in French and Economics. She then took her skills to France for two years, exploring French culture and lifestyles. She returned to the U.S. and moved to Chicago, where she worked in the financial industry, but always wanting to get into teaching.
She recently decided to move back to the Tri-Cities area, where she began teaching at Spring Lake High School.
“The people are so nice and helpful,” she said. “No one has every made me feel like a burden.”
Mahrin has two daughters and two rescue chihuahuas.
