The Detroit Lions’ victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 5 pushed the Lions to a franchise record of fifteen regular season wins. This is only one of the massive accomplishments that this historic team has reached. Another achievement for this team is going 8-0 on the road, becoming the 11th team in NFL history to ever do so.
In addition to some of their other achievements, the Lions clinched the No. 1 seed in the National Football Conference. This gives the Lions the Wildcard Weekend round off to rest. After this bye week, the Lions will face the lowest-seeded team remaining in the playoffs. This means that the Lions will face either the Los Angeles Rams, the Vikings, or the Washington Commanders before competing in the NFC Championship.
The Vikings and Rams face off in Los Angeles tonight at 8 p.m.
On top of all of the milestones set by the team, many individual franchise records have also been broken. During the Lions’ massive victory over Minnesota, Jahmyr Gibbs scored an astonishing four touchdowns to break the record for most touchdowns in one season in franchise history. He has been a major contributor all season and has helped the team break the franchise record for the most points and touchdowns during a single season.
This historic season has left many fans wondering if this could be the first year the team makes a Super Bowl appearance or even wins their first championship. The Lions are a strong, contending team but must face some very good teams to win it all. The Kansas City Chiefs are currently the Vegas favorite (+360) to win it all. The Chiefs have won the past two Super Bowls and it is hard to argue against the possibility of them winning another. They have the experience that the Lions lack and certainly have the talent that is required to win big games.
