The Spring Lake High School Marching Band has recently revealed their show theme for the fall of 2026: “Neon Cowboy.” Band directors have said that the show is going to be more fun compared to the last couple serious shows.
In previous years, the band has done show themes such as “Rise of the Dragon” (2025), “Beacon of Light” (2024), “New Year’s Eve in New York City” (2023), and “Welcome to the Carnival” (2022).
The show this year mixes music from classic cowboy movies with more modern pop songs. The selections include: “The Ecstasy of Gold” (by Ennio Morricone from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), “The Magnificent Seven” (by Elmer Bernstein from The Magnificent Seven), “The Last Stagecoach Heist” (by Travis J. Weller), “Save Me” (by Jelly Roll), “Texas Hold ‘Em” (by Beyoncé), and “Tank!” (by the Seatbelts from Cowboy Bebop).
This year, the band was able to purchase many props, including multiple backdrops and wooden rideable horses. This will also be the first year that the band has costumes. Usually the band wears the normal red and black school uniforms, but this year they will be wearing cowboy jackets, cowboy hats, and neon shirts.
Alec Purkis, one of the drum majors, says, “I’m very excited for this year, the band is already off to a great start, and we are going to be trying many new things during this show!”
The band has already started to work on music, and is currently training the new drum major candidates. The band is also looking for color guard members (no experience needed) and front ensemble members with piano experience. If you are interested, reach out to Mr. Grevengoed @ [email protected].
