The Spring Lake High Marching Band concluded its 2025 competitive season on November 1st with a performance at the Michigan Competitive Marching Band Association (MCBA) State Championships in Detroit. The group earned fourth place with a score of 82.8, marking its highest final score in their three years doing MCBA.
This year’s production, “Rise of the Dragon,” showcased bold and mythical soundscapes with dramatic visuals. The show featured music composed by Michael J. Miller and drill/choreography written by Stephen Alia. The 129-member band competed in four contests around the state before finals, consistently placing in the top two and earning caption awards for outstanding music and outstanding percussion.
Band director Mike Truszkowski says, “It was an enjoyable season. The music was exciting and well-received. The marching and visual moves were the most difficult we’ve ever attempted, but the band members handled it well and they had great attitudes all season long.”
“What a successful season our marching band has had this year! The band has worked so hard, day in and day out showing what this marching band can truly accomplish. Can’t wait for what next year has to bring!” commented sophomore drum major Alec Purkis.
Lydia Brown, a senior drumline member said, “I’m so grateful for such an awesome final season. It’s been such a good experience being in such a fun and accomplished band and drumline!”
The band will now transition to concert and jazz band, with a holiday performance scheduled for December 15th at 7:00PM in the Spring Lake High School Auditorium.
