With winter coming to an end and spring right around the corner, the Spring Lake Drama Club is preparing their upcoming musical. The production is called “Once Upon a One More Time” and has multiple Britney Spears songs and themes incorporated within it.
I recently sat down with Shalynn Chalupa, Spring Lake theaters director, and she gave me an informed idea of how our school’s theater department decides on shows, chooses roles, and creates amazing choreography.
Chalupa told me, “When we decide on a show, we have a list of requirements. The first thing is, does it have a large ensemble? We want kids to be able to participate, so that is probably the most important one for me. Second, what are the leads like? What are the vocal ranges required for these parts? We want to be able to have kids that could fill these spots. And lastly, what does the choreography look like? And what is the costuming like? All of these questions go into that decision.”
I understand from the interaction with Chalupa that the actors and actresses are working hard every day to put together another amazing and beautiful show for the community.
