Coming into February, the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina is upon us.
The opening ceremony will be on Friday, Feb. 6, at 2:00 p.m. ET and set to last around three hours. All events will be streaming exclusively on NBC and Peacock.
Winter, for some, is their favorite season of the year, with snow and ice sports like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and hockey. Every four years, the world gets to see the sports they love being executed at the highest level by the greatest athletes globally.
A record setting 232 athletes from the United States are set to go to Milan, 15 of those being from Michigan. Six will be competing for U.S. Men’s Hockey and two for US Women’s Hockey, along with other notable Michiganders such as gold medalist Nick Baumgartner, who has qualified for his fifth games for snowboarding.
Although the ceremony will be on February 6, events are set to start on Wednesday, Feb. 4, with events like curling, luge, snowboarding, Alpine skiing and women’s hockey getting underway.
The closing ceremony will take place Feb. 22 with 119 events and 245 gold medals being awarded.
