The Spring Lake High School Boys Varsity Swim and Dive team has held the No. 1 D3 ranking in the state throughout the season. The 12-0 campaign (5-0 in OK Lakeshore) has topped all of its competition so far.
With huge wins, there’s a lingering question—what factors have contributed to the team’s tremendous success?
Head Coach Michael Homan credited “strong senior captain leadership” and “instrumental” encouragement from various coaches that support the team.
Senior Captain Alex Strauss said, “I couldn’t be more honored to be alongside my fellow captains and represent Spring Lake Swim and Dive.”
Since the beginning of the season, Homan highlighted that the team has held a “family-first” atmosphere. Everyone on the team connected through the shared goal of accountability, showing up with a hard work ethic and stepping up for each other. He believes these early team aspects have been crucial to the success the team has produced.
Homan also highlights that without the work and encouragement from fellow coaches: Swim Coach Brian Porter, Diving Coach Sarah Colvin, and Strength Coach Jack Mendoza, “The Lakers would not be where we are without them.”
Make sure to cheer on the swim team this Saturday as they head to the conference Championship at Hamilton High School this Friday and Saturday. Conference finals begin at noon Saturday.
